Types of Standees: Which One Fits Your Event or Store
"Standee" covers a range of portable, free-standing display formats used at exhibitions, retail counters, and events. Picking the right type mostly comes down to how often it'll be used, how it needs to travel, and how much floor space is available.
The Main Standee Types
Roll-Up (Retractable) Standees
The most common format — a printed banner that retracts into a base for storage and transport, then pulls up and locks into place. Lightweight, quick to set up, and reusable across multiple events, making it the default choice for most exhibitions and storefronts.
X-Banner Standees
An X-shaped frame that the banner clips onto, named for the crossed support legs. Cheaper and lighter than roll-ups, but the banner isn't protected when not in use (no retracting case), so it's best suited to short-term or budget-conscious use.
Pop-Up (Fabric) Standees
A curved fabric backdrop stretched over a collapsible frame — larger than a standard standee, commonly used as a full backdrop for photo areas, registration desks, or stage backgrounds at events.
Table-Top (Mini) Standees
A small-format standee designed to sit on a counter or table rather than the floor — used for menu displays, point-of-sale promotions, or reception desk branding.
L-Banner Standees
An L-shaped frame supporting a flat banner, similar in use-case to an X-banner but with a slightly different visual profile and stability.
Choosing Between Them
- Reused often, needs to look polished: roll-up standee.
- One-off event, tight budget: X-banner.
- Need a full backdrop for photos or a stage: pop-up fabric backdrop.
- Counter or reception display: table-top standee.
Print Considerations
Standee graphics are typically printed on flex, vinyl, or a fabric material depending on the frame type — flex and vinyl for roll-up and X-banners, tension fabric for pop-up backdrops. Getting the resolution and colour profile right matters more on a standee than a large banner, since viewers are usually standing much closer to it.
Standees are one of several event and promotional products we produce — see our print media guide for the materials behind them.
FAQ( 01 )
With reasonable care and storage in its case between uses, a good-quality roll-up standee's mechanism and print can last for dozens of events over a couple of years or more.
For roll-up and X-banner frames, yes — a new printed banner can usually be fitted to an existing frame, saving the cost of a new base/mechanism.
85cm x 200cm (width x height) is the most common size, though narrower and wider options are available depending on the venue and content.
Yes — the frame folds down for storage and travel, and fabric prints are generally more crease-resistant than flex/vinyl for repeated packing and unpacking.
Roll-up and X-banner standees can be used outdoors in calm conditions, but any wind exposure needs a sturdier, weighted base — check the venue conditions before choosing.
Standard standee printing usually turns around quickly — a day or two — though rush jobs closer to an event date should be confirmed with us directly.
Yes, double-sided printing is available for most standee formats where the display might be viewed from more than one angle.
High-resolution print-ready files (PDF, AI, or a high-DPI PNG/JPEG at final size) work best — we can also assist with layout if you only have a logo and brand guidelines.
